President Bush had two problematic wars, a slowing economy, poor international relations, declining approval ratings, and John Kerry still managed to lose. In 2004, the Democratic Party had to choose between a growling mad man, a Southern boy toy, and a Lurch body-double who fought in Vietnam. And inevitably, this became the worst campaign since New Coke. People often ask what the country would be like had Al Gore defeated George Bush, but people rarely ever wonder what this country would be like if John Kerry had won. In fact, most people don’t even remember who John Kerry is.
